Flame Retardant Carbon Fiber

If your project requires lightweight flame retardant carbon fiber sheets or custom-molded parts, Kumair can help with the entire process including design assistance, prototyping, burn testing, and production manufacturing. Our flame retardant carbon fiber prepreg allows us to make simple flat sheets or complex molded components that meet FAR 25.863(a) Appendix F vertical burn testing. Test data is available upon request, and any custom laminate can be developed and sent for testing by one of the leading laboratories that conducts vertical burn and other tests required for aircraft interior applications.

CNC Cutting of Flame Retardant Carbon Fiber

Flame retardant carbon fiber parts have excellent machinability. As with any CNC machined carbon fiber part, there are certain features that work well and others that do not. For example, since carbon fiber is a brittle material (i.e. little to no yielding), extremely small or sharp features have very little strength and should be avoided. Gentle curves, radiuses, and pockets, however, machine cleanly and hold up well to high stresses.

Weave Options for Flame Retardant Carbon Fiber Parts

Kumair has the ability to utilize any carbon fiber weave thicknesses and patterns to construct flame retardant carbon fiber sheets, tubes, angles, brackets, c-channels, and custom molded parts. It is also possible to incorporate other materials into the laminate, such as metal (for example, titanium, aluminum, and stainless steel), and flame retardant foam or honeycomb (for lightweight carbon fiber core panels).

Surface Finish Options

Kumair flame retardant carbon fiber sheets and molded parts are intended for non-cosmetic applications. Pressed, molded, and sanded finishes offer options to customers depending on how the carbon fiber components will be integrated with the overall system. Kumair works with customers to determine the best approach for the specific application.
