New Hydraulic Platen Press Now Operational

Kumair is excited to announce that our new custom-built hydraulic platen press is fully operational. This new press will allow us to achieve much higher pressures and make larger panels. The platens are 0.75m x 1.5m (about 29" x 59"). Available hydraulics is up to 200 tons, or 440,000 lbs of force. This allows us to achieve surface pressures of over 10 times that of conventional vacuum bagging. The result is that we can manufacture carbon fiber panels with much higher fiber to resin ratio, and thus superior mechanical properties. For example, whereas a laminate that may have four or five plies in it using a vacuum bag process, we can put six plies of carbon fiber, thus substantially increasing the stiffness and strength of the part.
